Satori in the Fifth

by Michael K. Gause

The second drink
finds my tears diluted
with whiskey, the glass on the table.

The third is a smile
from the woman at the end.
What could she want?

In the fourth I am almost
strong enough to snap my own neck.
All that women and whiskey want.
